While he left Antwerp for Austria on an internship, three of them remained in Antwerp. They can look forward to a new employer.
Michael Frei (28), Berger Verstreet (29) and Dorian Dessole (30) did not go to train in Antwerp. The trio continues to train in Antwerp, but then in the B band. Mark van Bommel can no longer count on three experienced players who were already active on loan at other clubs last season.
Last season, Frey couldn’t accept the role as Janssen’s double. The Swiss forward went to Schalke04 during the winter break, but hasn’t managed to break any ground there. He could not prevent the traditional German club from relegation to the second tier of the Bundesliga.
Verstraete was active for a full season at KV Mechelen. He had a solid season with the people of Mechelen, but missed the crowning glory of the Kroke Cup that went to Antwerp. Verstraete and KV Mechelen wanted to continue together, but his salary is currently too high for Mechelen.
Dessoleil played a full season on loan at KV Kortrijk, but was referred to the B team for disciplinary reasons. His last official match dates back to November last year.
