Apple removes games that haven’t been updated in two years

Apple notified developers that apps and games that haven’t been updated for two years are at risk of being removed from the App Store. This news was shared by, among others, Protopop Games, which was very disappointed with the fact that its free game Motivoto will be removed.

Protopop Games added a screenshot of Apple’s email to its tweet. In it we read:

This app has not been updated in a long period of time and is due to be withdrawn from sale within 30 days. (…) You can keep this app available to new users by submitting an update for review within 30 days. If no update is provided within 30 days, the app will be removed from sale.

Apple’s decision to remove these games and apps is part of the company’s plan to improve the App Store, with the goal of making the online store more user-friendly, and making sure customers can find “great apps that meet their needs.” They are working on newer versions of iOS.

Protopop Games thinks it’s “not cool” from Apple. Especially since 2000’s console games are still on sale and this move creates an “unfair barrier” for independent developers.
