Russian television channels broadcast pictures showing Putin in a car. They said that he was on the bridge connecting the Ukrainian peninsula with Russia. The bridge was badly damaged in October by a powerful explosion.
Russia says Ukraine is behind the explosion on the bridge that also killed three people, but that country has not claimed responsibility. After the explosion, Russia launched massive missile attacks on its neighbor. The bridge over the Kerch Strait is the only land link between Russia and Crimea and is vital to supplying Russian forces in Ukraine.

Russia annexed Crimea in 2014 and construction of the 19-kilometer Crimean Bridge began a year later. At the grand opening in 2018, Putin was the first to cross the bridge, which is of great symbolic value for Russia. The Kyiv Post, one of Ukraine’s largest newspapers, published photos of the Russian president on Monday with a somewhat sarcastic note.
