Two years ago, during lockdown, two British people in their 20s stormed into Britain’s Marwell Zoo. They broke into the giraffe’s enclosure and threw a bottle of disinfectant at the animal while they filmed the whole thing. Now they have been found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal and damaging the giraffe enclosure.
It’s February 15, 2021 and Bradley Green (24) and Nathan Daniels (21) have the idea to break into Marwell Zoo. It’s closure and the two say they’re dead bored. They house the penguins and tigers, but they also wreak havoc on the giraffe’s enclosure.
“I took the bucket and bottle of disinfectant in the giraffe’s enclosure and threw them at the giraffe. It hit the animal in the neck. One of the giraffes had a leg injury that was discovered the next morning. “The giraffe became alarmed by the incident and slammed into the door,” the judge told Green.
Green’s attorney defended his client by saying he was ashamed of the incident and now realizes what he did was very serious. He is an animal lover at heart.
But this was useless. Green and Daniels face 12 months of community service with 120 hours of unpaid work and a fine of about $850 for the zoo.
