At least one person has been killed in the Black Sea region of northern Turkey in floods and landslides. Turkish Transport Minister Abdulkadir Oraloglu posted this on Twitter on Monday.
The state-run Anadolu news agency reported that several roads were closed.
In Bolu County, the tunnel exit is buried. Pictures showed excavators trying to clear the road. The meteorological service also warns of storms in the Black Sea region. The area has been repeatedly hit by severe floods.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Monday that the extreme weather is due to the climate crisis. “Unfortunately, our country, like the rest of the world, is increasingly feeling the problems caused by climate change,” he said in Istanbul.
