Buildings were damaged in dozens of cities. At least 440 people were injured.
Rescue teams are on their way to the affected area, and nearby hospitals have been alerted. Helping can become more difficult due to the wintry weather. It snows in many places in the region and the temperature drops below zero at night. The electricity was cut off here and there.
Last week, 120 people were injured in an earthquake in northwest Iran.
