An estimated 30,000 German spectators were at the Camp Nou yesterday for the Europa League match between FC Barcelona and Eintracht Frankfurt. There were only 5,000 tickets available for visiting fans, but many entered the stadium via foreign payment cards.
Barcelona coach Xavi had a tough time however after his team was eliminated (2-3 defeat). “Something obviously went wrong,” Chaffee says. “This wasn’t a home match, it was a final where half the fans supported one team and the other half supported the other.”
“The club is investigating how this happened and will take measures to avoid it in the future. I was expecting 70,000 or 80,000 ‘Colorados’. The fact that they aren’t there is an added disappointment.”
Xavi focuses on the match, “but I don’t want to use it as an excuse either.” “We blamed ourselves for the elimination. We had the ball but couldn’t take advantage of it. Frankfurt are very physically strong and their ability to switch quickly in attack is something you’ve rarely seen in football.”
“However, I think eliminating us is more our fault than it deserves. We simply made too many mistakes and we have to learn from them. This is not a disaster. Or yes, it is a disaster, but at the same time also a stage in the learning process. We are on the right track and we will continue The chosen path.
