A painful 5-0 defeat in the cup against Borussia Monchengladbach sent Bayern Munich hitting the ground hard. Coach Julian Nagelsmann doesn’t worry too much about a statement: “We can also make mistakes,” he said.
Because of the Corona infection, Nagelsmann had to follow pimping from home. “I cried a lot. My neighbors probably wondered what was going on,” Nagelsmann said in the run-up to the competition match against Union Berlin.
“We’re humans, not machines. We can make mistakes and combine with a good opponent and a bad day for us, and it can build up quickly. Obviously we can make several mistakes in one day.”
“We have already shown that we are weak, but it is important that we learn lessons from it. It was a historic defeat and we have to accept that criticism is coming now.”
We have to prove that we are Bayern Munich and that we are really among the best teams in Europe.
However, there are certainly no warning signs going off at Bayern Munich. They are at the top of the Champions League with 12 goals and have not conceded any goals. In the Bundesliga, they scored at least 33 times in their first 9 matches.
“We shouldn’t be distracted by too much praise,” says Nagelsmann. “We have to prove that we are Bayern and that we are really among the best teams in Europe. We have to fall back like champions now, so I want to see a reaction against Union. We don’t want to go through this again.”
The 34-year-old Nagelsmann, who is in his first season with Rekordmeister, is not worried about his job. “I always feel pressure. At Bayern you have to strive to win trophies.”
