Belgium soccer player suspended and fined after racist riots in US | game

New York Red Bulls’ Belgian footballer Dante Vancier has been banned for 6 matches for racist comments. He was also fined by Major League Soccer.

The 24-year-old attacker, who has only been playing football in the US for two months, has been away from the club “until further notice” due to racism. Wanseer allegedly made a racist comment to opponent Jeremy Ebobisse during last Saturday’s game against the San José Earthquakes. The match was stopped for about 20 minutes due to the commotion on the ground. Vancier, who until recently played in the Belgian league at Union, publicly apologized in a statement on Monday.

Ron Johns, now coach of FC Twente, experienced something similar during his time in America. He responded to the new riot. “I felt like I ended up in a bad dream or a Netflix movie,” Johns recalls.

The Belgian player, who once played for the ‘Red Devils’, said, “I take full responsibility for my actions. “While my language meant no harm or offense, I know I did, and I am deeply sorry.”

Wanseer addressed his New York Red Bulls teammates on Tuesday. “To avoid further distraction, he will not remain with the club until further notice,” the New York team said in a statement.
