Riders have completed all classification crosses and championships. The perfect moment for our commentators to end an unforgettable cyclo-cross season. Find out who will be the big goblin in Crosscars, divided into eight classes.
1. Best Leading Actor
Nominees: Matteo van der Pol, Wott van Aert, Tom Bidcock, and Michael Vanthornhout.
“Fanthornhout is there, because of course he won two titles,” Robin van Gucht opened.
“It doesn’t look out of place on that list either,” says Paul Hergers. “He did it his way against the cheerleaders who, to put it in a very irreverent way, are only better.”
Van der Poel’s biggest argument is that he won the only cross that really mattered.
“All four guys wrote a great story. And the winner will also receive the ‘Holy World Champion jersey.’” So I chose Van der PoelIf you can relate to that.”
A choice Van Gucht ponders for a moment: “It’s a double, because Van Aert is the king of victory. If you’re going to Van der Poel, the biggest argument is that he won the one cross that really matters.”
“That’s why I think he beats Van Aert,” Hergers says. “Even if it’s after the photo is finished.”
2. Best Female Lead
Nominees: Wim van Embel, Shereen van Anrooy and Beck Peters.
“Here, too, there is something to say for all riders,” says Van Gucht.
Peters is a queen off road. In the weirdest, creamiest of orbits, it rises above the rest. We see the opposite with Van Anrooij, who is eye-catching and just waiting for her moment.”
“She could have beaten these two other greats many times,” Van Gucht adds. “But it can’t have a follow-up story,” Hergers replies.
So we’ll come anyway Van Ampel Outside. She impressively returned from a lost site and headed for the rainbow. Van Impel returned stronger than ever and continued this streak to Brussels. This deserves an award.”
3. Best Picture of the Season
Candidates: Diegem, Gavere and the World Championships in Hoogerheide.
Herygers doesn’t really have a preference of the three heroic crossover stories. “My heart also goes out to Javier, as the organization has taken great strides to reach World Cup level.”
“My favorite is Diegem,” Van Gucht summed up. A choice that fellow commentator understands: “That was also very good.”
The Big Three did not compete as fiercely as in Diegem.
Van Gucht remembers his most important argument: “The Big Three have never competed as fiercely on any other show as there is.”
“In addition, men like Sven Vanthornhout said afterwards with a sense of exaggeration: We have never seen this before.”
“I agree,” Herrigers pleads. “Give Digem. “
4. Best Supporting Actor
Candidates: Michael Vanthornhout, Lawrence Swick, Elie Iserbet and the Canadian who dislocated his finger at the World Cup.
“This is the hardest of them all,” sighs Paul Hergers.
“Scratch that Canadian. It’s heroic and I love having him, but I can’t compete with the other three.”
Then who is he The best of the rest? Swick is not riding the best season of his career, while Vanthourenhout Two blouses. These are the decisive factor for him.
5. Best action camera
I only see one candidate: Drone at the World Cup in HoogerheideRobin van Gucht laughs.
But his colleague also thinks of all the other hard-working photographers: “They are real professionals who make sure everything works perfectly on air.”
Herriggers must also admit: “But that drone, it just wasn’t normal.” “It was a Belgian piloting the drone,” says Van Gucht. “If even Lance Armstrong is talking about it on his podcast, you’ve done it right.”
6. Dear Newcomer
Nominees: Benidorm, Masmechelen and Gerben Kuipers.
“Because the latter is also a real newcomer who has done a good job,” says Van Gucht.
“Although we may have to wait another year,” says Hergers. “Then we can judge when he has made progress. Just a little patience, is the message.”
Who will receive the award? Maasmechelen that had to start reversing the time from 0 or Benidorm, where a new mass of cross fans suddenly woke up?
“In Maasmechelen the organization received help, in Spain they did everything themselves. That’s why they won Benidorm With the thickness of the band, I think, “Judges Hergers.” And all the big boys put on the show. “
7. Best comeback
The favourites: Matteo van der Poel after back problems, Celine Alvarado after a difficult season and Wim van Embel after a fall in Val di Sole.
“The three of them have a huge story,” Hergers looks skeptical. “The Alvarado is a bit short to join the top, so it’s not close enough for a crossover.”
Over the course of the year, Van der Poel suffered a lot, and I wasn’t expecting him to come back with those back problems.
“I think you should look beyond the cyclocross season,” suggests Van Gucht. “What happened to Van der Poel at the World Cycling Championships in Australia, not many people have recovered from it.”
“Things went very wrong on the tour,” Herrigers adds. “And so far in the Cyclocross World Cup, I wasn’t expecting him to be so good after those back problems.”
The suffering was immense, so no one deserves more than the award Van der Poel.
8. Best Director
Candidates: Dutch national team coach Gerben de Kniggt, tournament builder Adri van der Poel, Flanders Classics as World Cup manager.
“I’m really out already,” Heryger immediately says. “It takes a lot of work to build something on a global scale.”
“Van der Poel, on the other hand, did something great, but he’s been doing it for years. What Flanders Classics Is it strong. They are constantly innovating. There is a team behind it with an idea.”
“Subtly charming internet specialist. Avid writer. Friendly alcohol guru. Music ninja. Devoted social media fanatic.”
