US President Joe Biden warned his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in a two-hour phone call on Friday of “consequences” if Beijing decided to provide material support to Russia “in its brutal attack on Ukrainian cities and civilians”. This was announced by the White House. The conversation went well, according to Biden.
US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, said Thursday that the United States would not hesitate to lose China if it supported the Russian offensive, hinting at sanctions.
Earlier, Chinese state television announced that Xi had mentioned during the conversation that a conflict such as the war in Ukraine harms all parties involved. He said the United States and China should do all they can to achieve world peace.

Open a line of communication
According to CNN, Biden also emphasized during the conversation that he continues to support a diplomatic solution to the conflict and that the two leaders agreed on the need to maintain an open line of communication.
The US government has warned China and Chinese companies several times not to help Russia evade sanctions. If that happens, sanctions could extend to Chinese companies.
The United States and the European Union are more important trading partners for China than Russia.
