The unions were not given any answers at an initial meeting on Friday about what the next few weeks for the site’s employees will look like. That is why a meeting was held on Tuesday afternoon.
Unions and management reached an agreement to keep wages on Tuesday evening. “We have also come to an agreement on the process of consultation and the organization of new meetings,” reports Sylvian Arnold of the trade union center ACV Voeding.
The future of Arlon’s site will not be in danger. “Investments are ongoing and management has said the company will continue to operate as a Ferrero site,” Arnold said. Consultations should also be held with the Federal Food Chain Safety Agency (FAVV) about procedures and timing for site reopening.
According to Ferrero’s website, the company employs 725 people in Arlon. During peak seasonal periods, that can be as high as 1100.
The Luxembourg Public Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation into the Italian group Ferrero this week. The investigation comes after more than 100 salmonella infections in Europe were said to be linked to a salmonella outbreak at the Ferrero factory in Arlon.
A new meeting between unions and management is scheduled for April 22nd.
