British Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned on Sunday that an Omicron “tidal wave” was imminent. All adults in England will be invited to get a booster dose from next week.

In a televised address, Johnson said that by the end of the year, all people over the age of 18 will be able to receive such a booster dose. This is a month faster than previously planned.
“It is now clear that two doses of the vaccine are simply not enough to provide the required level of protection,” Johnson was quoted by the British BBC News channel as saying. “But the good news is that our scientists are confident that we can increase that level of protection again with a third dose, a booster dose.”
The Scottish government announced earlier today, also in Scotland, that anyone aged 18 or over will be able to schedule a booster dose within the next week. Northern Ireland and Wales will also speed up vaccination programmes.
In the UK, the Corona alert level was raised from three to four on Sunday, due to the progress of the Corona variant.
1,239 new infections with the omicron variant were confirmed in the UK on Sunday, nearly doubling from the 633 infections reported on Saturday.
