IPW, America’s largest travel trade show, took place last week in Los Angeles with Brand USA as the main sponsor. Chris Thompson, president and CEO of Brand USA, gave his final press conference after ten years of service in the national marketing organization. “There’s a clear resurgence in travel interest and the U.S. is the world leader in long-haul travel,” Thompson said.
Last year, the country welcomed nearly 67 million visitors who spent $213 billion on travel and tourism-related activities in the United States. This is an increase of 28 percent compared to previous years. “Inbound arrivals from India have already surpassed 2019 arrival levels and the following countries will do so by 2025: Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom.”
Recent research by Brand USA shows that the United States is the top destination among international travelers from Brazil, Canada, China, Japan and Mexico. Significantly, the intention of Chinese visitors to visit the US increased.
Global events
The U.S. expects to welcome 90 million visitors by 2027, who will spend $279 billion annually. Brand USA wants to engage customers in a new way with global events in the US over the next 3-4 years, such as Worldpride in Washington DC, the 100th anniversary of Route 66, the FIFA World Cup and the summer of 2028. At the conclusion of the press conference, Todd Davidson, Chairman of the Brand USA Board of Directors and CEO of Travel Oregon, welcomed Brand USA’s new President and CEO, Fred Dixon. Dixon, who currently serves as CEO of New York City Tourism + Conventions, will take over from Chris Thompson on July 15, 2024.
