Bread for people who have difficulty chewing and swallowing

Nutrients contribute to the recovery of hospital patients. Healthy food is also essential for residents of residential care facilities. Nutrient absorption begins with chewing. For people with dysphagia, who have problems chewing and swallowing, nutrient absorption is even more difficult. With the LiMiMotion® program (liquid and mixed meal solution), Medirest wants to help people become healthier again.

With the LiMiMotion® programme (liquid and mixed meal solution), Medirest, a sector within Compass Group Belgium, wants to help people become healthier again.

maximum enrichment

With LiMiMotion, hospital patients or residents of long-term care facilities with chewing and swallowing problems receive personalized meals, tailored to their needs and tastes, in liquid or mixed form. The big difference with regular mixed foods is that the food is maximally enriched and special attention is paid to the presentation of the dish and the taste. The program motivates patients and residents to eat well and sufficiently, which has a positive impact on their recovery.

After following the program, 70% of patients or residents regain a stable weight, according to the initiators. It appears that healthy nutrition plays a major role when it comes to keeping hospital patients and residents in residential care fit, both physically and mentally. For many people, the program represents a major step towards greater self-reliance.

New: MiMO Bread
So far, Medirest has mainly applied this technology to hot meals and sandwich fillings. It has recently developed MiMo bread. With MiMo bread, Medirest can now use the technology to adapt bread for breakfast or dinner as well. A slice of MiMo bread visually resembles a regular sandwich, but melts as soon as it hits the mouth. It is also delicious with a spreadable layer, such as jam, cheese or pâté.

Marion Kohling, Chief Operating Officer at Medirest: “It’s real bread enriched with high-quality proteins. After mixing, it’s returned to its natural form, and then people with chewing and swallowing problems can eat a slice of bread as everyone loves it.

“With this new technology, we enhance the absorption of important nutrients and proteins. Above all, we give residents of residential care centers and hospital patients with dysphagia the pleasure of eating delicious bread in the morning again because they experience a normal eating experience. This not only improves their independence, but above all, we put a smile on their faces again.”
