The shortages and long queues facing service stations in the UK is a ‘good lesson’. The minister says they are reminding us of the need to speed up the transition to electric cars. Goldsmith recognizes that fuel supply problems have a significant impact on individuals and businesses. “You don’t see the same problems in people who use electric cars,” he asserts.

In the run-up to the International Climate Conference (COP26) in Glasgow, Goldsmiths also responded to criticism by rebellious Tory MPs who called the power switch expensive and unrealistic. “There are people in the community, in the Conservative Party, who are skeptical of this and do not support the government’s efforts,” she said. “I think they are greatly outnumbered and I think science proves them wrong. Extraordinary events, day in and day out, prove them wrong.”
