The World Figure Skating Championships will take place at the end of March. With Luna Hendricks, but without skiers from Russia and Belarus after those countries were suspended by the ISU. This punishment is a consequence of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Russia has traditionally been a leading country in speed skating and without Russian skaters, Luna Hendricks’ chances of winning the medal seem to be increasing. But brother and coach Jurick is keeping that boat away.
“If we look at the Olympic results, you’re not among the medal candidates without the Russians,” he says. Hendricks ranked eighth in Beijing.
And he continues, “If we look at it at the European level, the doors will open. If we were in front of a European Championship, we could have achieved great success.”
For the World Cup, there are now 4 skaters that Hendrikx has to look at. And Jorik Hendrickx estimates that “if Loena does well, then something is possible”. “It also depends on what the competition is doing.”
The whole situation does not change in the preparation of Loena Hendrickx. “We will continue with the same urgency and the same pattern that we planned,” Jurek says.
“This week has been one of quiet buildups. Starting next week there will be hard training again. Loena first had to recover from the Winter Games. She was already on the ice last week. Not quite a break. I have complete confidence in he-she .”
