Brussels Airport expects disruptions at the airport next Friday, when unions will organize a new national demonstration, and is therefore calling on airlines to cancel flights as a precautionary measure. Capacity may be reduced to thirty percent of a regular Friday.
The ABVV, ACV and ACLVB unions will travel again through Brussels next Fridayfor a national demonstration. With this measure, they are repeating their old demands for more purchasing power: an energy price cap and free wage negotiations. At the end of November, the government put a settlement proposal on the table whereby profitable companies could pay a one-off check of up to €750 to their employees next year, but unions consider this insufficient.
No strike was called before Friday, December 16, but many people will not work to demonstrate because of the demonstration. At Zaventem Airport, an impact is mainly expected in control and to treatTwo crucial services.
“Based on data on the number of people willing to work, we asked airlines to reduce capacity by 70 percent that day,” the spokesperson confirms. The remaining thirty percent of flights can then be carried out without any problems, with baggage.
Discussions with airlines are still taking place in the following days. Passengers will be notified personally by their airline if their flight is canceled or rescheduled, it seems.
