Brussels Bike 43 raises 1 million euros to conquer Europe with electric long-tail bike | internal

The Bike 43 is electric powered by a motor on the pedals. Two-wheelers are distinguished by their long tail – hence the name “longtail”. It is marketed as a family bike, because you can transport up to three children with it. This can be done in different ways, depending on the accessories you buy.

This year, three times more bikes need to be built. Bike 43 wants to sell about 10,000 bikes in the next two to three years. Bike 43 raised €43m in funding for the year last year. Two new investors joined the company – Miguel van Damme and Thibaut Dahm – as well as financing from the bank and a loan from the investment vehicle of the Brussels region.

Bike 43 distinguishes itself by doing a significant portion of production in Europe. For example, founder and electrical engineer Etienne Richel chose to make the tires in Hungary and the rims in France. Assembly takes place in Brussels in a company recognized by order.

How many bikes has Bike 43 already sold managing partner Thibaut Dehem not wanting to say during a phone conversation with our editors. “What we can say is that we can’t produce enough bikes to meet demand,” Dahm said. Half of the sales to date have been in Belgium, and the other half in the rest of Europe, mainly in France, Germany and the United Kingdom.
