Bugatti Tourbillon: V16 engine, three electric motors, 1800 horsepower

See the new Bugatti Tourbillon with 1,800 horsepower. Its name comes from the mechanism found in expensive watches that resists the negative effects of gravity. Simply put, this part ensures that the watch is working properly. Do you think it’s very similar to Chiron? This is possible, but the tourbillon does not share a single part with its predecessor or with its half-brother, the Nievera.

The car is 33mm lower and not longer than the Chiron, which is a miracle. The 8.3-liter V16 has a crankshaft that is one meter longer. The new Cosworth engine revs to 9,000 rpm and is mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The whole car weighs just under 1,995kg in the Chiron, despite a 25kWh battery weighing 200kg, and two electric motors on the front axle and one on the rear axle.

The naturally aspirated V16 alone produces 1,000 PS and 900 Nm. The electric motors add another 800 hp and 3,000 Nm. You can also drive 60 kilometers electric and then still have 800 horsepower to play with. Just like with the Chiron, there is a special switch that allows you to unlock a higher top speed. Without this switch, the tourbillon could reach a maximum speed of 380 km/h. Do you use Speed switchand then you can continue at speeds of up to 445 km/h.

It won’t take forever to reach your limit. 0 to 100 km/h takes just 2 seconds (the Chiron takes 2.4 seconds). To 200 km/h? This ended after 5 seconds (Chiron 6.1). The 0-300 time is less than ten seconds (Chiron 13.1) and the magic 400 km/h barrier is broken after 25 seconds.

Isn’t it just a chiron plastic surgery?

A real rocket, but with attention to detail. The wishbones with active dampers and dual valves were 3D printed by Divergent (a sister company to Czinger, remember that name?) to make it stiffer, stronger and prettier. However, the animal resembles Chiron with aggressive behavioral disorders. At first the similarities are noticeable, but stop for a moment and look at the car up close.

See the floating headlights hidden in curved pendants. As much air as possible is brought into the sixteen cylinders via these elegant lines. Notice how the narrower glass dome accentuates the shoulders and the doors are pure theatrics – dihedral and electrically powered, both a first for Bugatti.

Pure beauty truly starts from the back. The clearly visible V16 leans forward to accommodate the steepness of the venturi tunnels on either side. A diffuser is twice the size of the Chiron’s, ensuring the rear wing stays neatly in place at top speed and pops out when braking in Track mode.

The private cabin of the Bugatti Tourbillon

Once inside, you are greeted by skeleton dials that essentially look like a Swiss watch in a larger format. Every gear is a gem. The two needles on the middle dial indicate the speed and speed of rotation. On the left are the analogue battery, oil temperature and fuel gauges. On the right you will find double needles indicating the consumption of the electric motors and the combustion engine in real time.

Of course, the series of rotary knobs on the center console are made of crystal glass and the steering wheel looks beautiful. And here it is: No screens? Almost afterwards. Press a button and the vertical screen rises from the top of the dashboard before coming to rest. The Bugatti basically has the screen so you don’t have to hold your cell phone awkwardly on your lap when moving around. That’s why it also includes Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

I want one, how much does it cost?

Exotic materials, thoughtful accents, tremendous power and all in a special jacket. A feeling of something approaching the value of €3.8 million without taxes. Increase the amount a little with a number of options and you will have 4 million euros in no time. Bugatti will initially build 250 units of this coupe. Derivatives will appear on the production line from 2029. Consider a convertible version.

The Bugatti Tourbillon is not just a new performance benchmark for the rest of the automotive world. It’s a triumph of the natural combustion engine and analogue mechanical sophistication in a world increasingly moving toward electric vehicles. Start the video below and enjoy the sound of a naturally aspirated V16 engine.
