Canada sends repaired turbines from Nord Stream gas pipeline to Germany

“In the absence of the necessary supplies of natural gas, the German economy will face great difficulties and Germans risk not being able to heat their homes as winter approaches.” The Canadian minister accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of trying to sow divisions between allies.

Russia’s gas group Gazprom relied on this work to justify cutting shipments to Germany via the gas pipeline in June. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday that the pipeline’s capacity would increase again if the repaired turbines were delivered to Russia. Germany itself viewed the drop in supplies as an “economic attack”.

Kyiv responded with great disappointment at the Canadian decision. “We call on the Canadian government to reconsider the decision and keep the sanctions policy as it is,” a statement from the Ukrainian foreign and energy ministries said.
