The Canadian Grand Prix is becoming a reality again. At the famous Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, victory fell to Max Verstappen. He managed to keep Lando Norris behind him in the race and crossed the finish line in second place. The top three today were completed by George Russell.
As expected, it was wet at the start of the Canadian Grand Prix. There had been a lot of rain before the race, meaning the track was very wet. At first, Sergio Pérez immediately noticed that it was glassy, because he collided with Pierre Gasly’s Alpine.
George Russell held the lead, but it was slipping and sliding. The Haas team made a brave decision. Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg were the only ones to start on rain tyres. The plan worked brilliantly, with both drivers moving forward with ease. When it started to dry out, Magnussen switched to Inters. The stop was slow, and the Dane backed away.
Leclerc problems
Charles Leclerc was still driving, but Monaco faced completely different problems. Ferrari discovered engine problems, but Leclerc had to keep pushing. However, he lost a lot of time. It was also exciting at the head of the field, where Max Verstappen was closing in on George Russell and everyone was looking forward to an entertaining duel.
Verstappen made a rare mistake in Turn 1, causing him to tumble across the colorful grass. He lost some time, with Lando Norris’ McLaren emerging behind him. The Briton flew, and on the twentieth lap he caught up with Verstappen.
Norris did not sit still, but moved faster and faster. He saw George Russell driving in front of him, and since the DRS was activated, he was able to pass easily. Russell went wide and also lost his place to Max Verstappen.
At the same time, Norris opened a huge gap with his competitors. He seemed to be able to move away easily as the rain approached. The tactical masterminds on the pit wall came up with strategies, but they were thrown in the trash.
Sargent
Logan Sargeant spun and hit the wall and was unable to continue. The safety car was sent onto the track and Norris did not stop. Verstappen, Russell and Piastri did just that. Norris went only a lap later, and that cost him the lead.
The rain fell again as the safety car came into play. Ferrari wanted to try it in the slicks at that moment and they immediately reset Leclerc’s car. The plan failed, and the Monaco was ordered to park the car in the pit box.
It is now starting to become drier and drier. Pierre Gasly was the first to choose stains, and everyone quickly followed suit. Norris decided to continue a little longer than Verstappen, Russell and Piastri. This plan appeared to be working, but when Norris spun wide while exiting the pit, Verstappen took the lead.
chaos
Verstappen quickly reported that he was having problems driving over barriers. The problems are known, and Russell took second place from Norris. Together they opened the attack on Verstappen. However, Russell made the same mistake as Norris which caused them to change positions again.
Ferrari and Sergio Perez’s problems are getting worse and worse. After Charles Leclerc retired, Carlos Sainz was also forced to retire. He lost control, spun and hit Alexander Albon. Moments ago, Sergio Perez turned his rear wing into a pile of carbon after spinning. The chaos was complete and the safety car came out. Hamilton and George Russell responded immediately by pitting them.
the final level
Verstappen got away well at the start of the second half, and for the first time was able to open up a real gap. The final stage has arrived, and there is still a lot to happen. George Russell tried to take third place from Oscar Piastri, but that did not go well. Russell rushed into the replay zone, which prompted an investigation. Both men have yet to report to the stewards. Lewis Hamilton had his chance, taking third place from Piastri. Russell came in now, and immediately opened the attack on his teammate. This is what brought him back to the podium. Verstappen won and was very happy about it. After weeks full of doubts, Verstappen returned.
