Dusan Tadic still has a contract with Ajax until next summer, but he decided to leave Amsterdam immediately. The experienced captain has played in the Eredivisie since 2018 and has played a huge part in the impressive European campaign. “I will forever be an Ajax player,” said his farewell on the club’s website.
After his move from Southampton to Ajax, there were still a lot of questions about Dusan Tadic’s name. The midfielder – then 29 years old – was not bought in the style of the Amsterdam home.
But the Serb turned out to be a bull’s-eye. He became the center of the Johan Cruyff Arena, winning three trophies, winning two cups and most importantly playing an important role in the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League campaign.
Then the Ajax players just missed the Champions Ball final after losing to Tottenham. Earlier, the CL record holder Real Madrid went for the axe.
If it were up to me, this isn’t a final goodbye.
“The decision to leave is difficult,” Tadic opened his farewell speech on the club’s website.
“However, I think now is the right time. I think it’s good not only for me, but also for the club for a fresh start.”
“The time I spent at Ajax and the successes I’ve celebrated, I’ll carry with me the rest of my career. It gives me an indescribable feeling. So I want to thank all the fans for the great time I had here.”
“If it were up to me, it’s not a final farewell. I will be an Ajax player forever and I hope to be back in Amsterdam soon, in a different role as coach.”
