Xi called on the US to be “reasonable and pragmatic” and work “in the same direction” with China. “Together we must take responsibility for history, people and the world,” he said.
America agrees, Blinken told Gee. “President Biden believes that the United States and China are committed to improving our relationship. The United States is committed to doing the same,” Blinken said. “Immediate engagement and continuous, high-level communication is the best way to address our differences and ensure that competition does not lead to conflict.”
“One should not try to mold another to one’s own will,” Xi told America. According to Xi, China “respects US interests” and does not “challenge or replace the US”. According to Blinken, the United States is not as willing to slow down Chinese economic growth as China believes.
Blinken, for his part, called on China to take a “constructive role” in the war in Ukraine with other countries and work towards peace. Later, he added that China has given assurances that it will not supply arms to Russia. Blinken also pointed to China’s influence in persuading its neighbor to end North Korea’s nuclear weapons program.
