“Club Brugge has been in contact with Red Devil Thomas Meunier about a transfer: this is the result” – Transfer News

Is there a significant transfer in the pipeline? Thomas Meunier is particularly happy that he can still experience the European Championship as a Red Devil, but there could also be a return to Club Brugge.

The 32-year-old Meunier certainly had some great years with the current Belgian national champions, in 2011 and 2016. Thanks to his performance at the Jan Breedel Stadium, his career took off even further. After that, our compatriot played for four years in French club Paris Saint-Germain and then another four years in Dortmund.

Partly due to injuries, playing opportunities have been scarce for the German team. In February 2024, Meunier moved to Turkish Trabzonspor on a free transfer. He performed well there in his first months, allowing him to be selected for the European Championships in Germany. The question now is what does the future hold?

Departure is an option for Meunier

Het Nieuwsblad reports that there has been contact between the Red Devil and his former employer Club Brugge with a view to a transfer. Meunier is still under contract with Trabzonspor for another year, but the situation is not ideal for his family. Therefore, exit from Türkiye cannot be ruled out. Coming back to Belgium would be great.

Then a lot of water must continue to flow through the sea. After all, those contacts showed that he is still too expensive for Club Brugge at the moment. The difference between supply and demand is still very large. It remains to be seen if another team can serve him upon his request or it will just be one more season at Trabzonspor.

Back to the club not until tomorrow

If an agreement can be reached at some stage, it would certainly be warmly welcomed by the club’s supporters. Right now, going back to the old nest is not yet an option.
