After a disappointing season, Club Brugge can still hope for a good result. Meanwhile, behind the scenes, the board of directors is also busy preparing for next season. At the top of the wish list: A successor to Igor Thiago deep into the point.
The 22-year-old Brazilian, who once again failed to crown his strong match against Anderlecht with a goal, will soon move to Brentford for a record sum of no less than $33 million. Money that new director of football Davey Rigo can use in the search for a new number nine.
Thiago's successor
Finally, it remains to be seen exactly what Ferran Gutgla's future plans are, while the futures of loanees Romeo Firmant and Roman Yaremchuk at Jan Breydel also look highly uncertain. However, none of them seem to have the right profile to fill Thiago's position.
And so Blauw-Zwart scans the market for a new target man. A search that might lead them to Argentina. According to local media, the club is keeping a keen eye on Adam Barreiro, the 27-year-old Paraguayan player who has so far scored 39 goals and six assists in 112 appearances for San Lorenzo.
Price: 7 million
Less than a year and a half ago, they paid barely $2 million to take the two-cap international on a permanent basis from Monterrey. Although he will only be there until the end of 2025, the Argentine, whom Vincent Manert once tried to poach Adolfo Gaich, still wants a huge sum.
The club have reportedly already made an initial offer of around five million for Barreiro, whose price tag would reach seven million. However, it appears that the Bruges residents, who are expected to come up with a new proposal soon, are serious about bringing in the striker.
