Golden page for history books. Club Brugge is the national champion for the third time in a row after returning in Antwerp. Simon Mignolet showed himself to be the great guardian angel in the first half by reducing the difference to 1-0. After the break, Vanaken, Hendry, and Adamian overturned the situation. 44 years after Ernst Abel, the Club is once again celebrating a pure trio of champions.
Antwerp – Club Brugge in a nutshell:
- important moment: Antwerp takes the lead after a beautiful goal from Frey and wants to hit Klopp completely against canvas in the next minutes, but Mignolet is right in Haroun and Samata’s attempts. After the break, Club reversed roles, in part thanks to a dumb penalty kick from Seck.
- man of the match: What a colossal Champions Qualifier played by Simone Mignolet! The Red Devil alone kept the club on their way to Antwerp with some crucial saves.
- noticeable: Since Mignolet returned to the Belgian courts, Club Brugge has always been the champion. Three times in a row now, blue and black equates its very strong streak from the ’70s with the iconic Ernst Abel. For Vanaken, Michelle and Former, this is their fifth title in 7 years.
Antwerp starts furious, Mignolet is awesome
With the arrival of Club Brugge, Boswell caught fire. Antwerp had nothing to win or lose after a disappointing 0 out of 6 against Anderlecht, but absolutely nothing to note.
Antwerp was the coach for both matches and a few minutes later Samatta put pressure on Michel and put the ball into the post. Fifteen minutes later it was done. Frey recovered the ball from the silent and the Swiss scored his twenty-third goal in the league against the net.
Antwerp continued to dominate in the ensuing minutes. Mignolet managed to save a lot of great balls and he kept going. Both teams went into the first half with a score of 1-0, a well deserved lead for Antwerp, but it certainly could have been more than that.
Fixed stages lead the club to the eighteenth title
After the break, Seck threw all that solid action from Antwerp before the break with one stroke. The Senegalese made a reckless intervention on Lang and hit the ball more than the penalty kick. Vanaken took his responsibility and kept him calm and balanced.
The club got back up and running again without creating any chances. Even after the tie, the game didn’t really change, but 2 corner kicks were enough to seal the match.
It was Hendry and Adamien who gave the club a comfortable 1-3 lead before they realized it in Antwerp. There was nothing left to do in the last minutes.
Thus, Brugge can celebrate its 18th title and its third in a row, and is sure of its place in the group stage of the Champions League next season. In Antwerp they are still looking forward to the European qualifiers. If Gent score sooner against Genk, the old game will definitely be European football, otherwise there could still be a barrage of bombs lurking in the corner.
Feedback after Antwerp-Club Bruges:
Aaron: We wanted to give back to our supporters
In Antwerp I got Faris Haroun The task of keeping Hans Vanaken off the team, among others. Before the end of the first half, the veteran also did it lively, but in the end he left Antwerp empty-handed: “We tried to give our fans something back after the difficult play-off matches.”
“It is very unfortunate to lose after such a strong first half. The stagnant stages are killing us here. The club has the best goalkeeper in Mignolet and with 1-0 they are also still in the game.”
“If you see the first half, it should be at least 2-0, but the penalty kick and the slack stages are killing us. You can’t blame the group. We really did everything we could this evening.”
also Mbwana is silentwho may have played his best game of the season, gave his analysis: “Our first half was really strong, but I don’t know what happened after that. The club scored 3 goals in a few minutes and then suddenly the game was decided.”
“Penalty kick? I was so far away, I can’t say much about it. I definitely had chances and was a little unhappy. The goalkeeper did a great job, we should have scored more. That’s football.”
