A good start is half the battle? And Union have already won the first prize of the season. In the Super Cup against Club Brugge they showed that they are very effective: after two chances the score was 0-2. Club Brugge fought back in the end and saw Christos Tzoulis score for the first time in a thrilling finale, but the comeback was no longer possible.
We were looking forward to Sebastian Pocognoli making his debut on the sidelines of tonight’s Union match. In his first match he immediately won his first trophy. The Union started without new arrivals, and it seems that the system of previous years is still in place.
The defensive block was there and they tried to score dangerously on the counterattack. The Brussels people offered almost nothing in the first half. A header from Vanaken and a shot from Nielsen could not threaten Maurice.
So Union did what they have done so often in recent years: confront. On the counterattack, Romero played the ball to Cabango inside the penalty area just before half-time. Referee Van Driessche didn’t hesitate and put the ball in the penalty spot. Mignolet beat Cameron Puertas’ shot, but Union still went into half-time with the score 0-1.
Just after the break, Leisen doubled the lead after a free kick by Puertas. After the hour mark, Cabango had an excellent chance to make it 3-0, but he missed the ball.
That was the signal for the club to start increasing the pressure. It was new Greek signing Tzoulis who was busy and scored the 1-2 goal in the 79th minute.
The same Tzoulis came close to equalising in the end, but found Maurice excellent on his way. That’s how Union won and can put their first Super Cup in the trophy cabinet.

Al-Ittihad wins the Super Cup
Van Driessche explodes before the end of the Super Cup. The score remains 1-2 after a thrilling finish where Tzoulis came close to an equaliser but found Maurice in his path.
It’s the first Supercup for Union, and a more than successful debut for Pocognoli.
Machida almost gets his goalkeeper into trouble with a dragon back pass, but Morris is able to control the ball and clear it.

Tzoulis goes so close, but finds Maurice twice. First with a header, then the rebound. Will they get another chance like this?
Lazar gets close to 1-3 but can’t finish. That was the decision.
Klopp gets 6 minutes of extra time to score an equaliser.

The union is no longer able to find a solution on its own. Can they withstand the pressure?

Tzolis and Nelson combine well in the penalty area, but Tzolis’ cross is blocked by Vanhouette who gets the ball in a critical spot.

What a beautiful goal from Tzolis. Firmant, who has just come on, stabs the other substitute Talbi nicely and deeply. He keeps his sights and finds Tzolis. The Greek newcomer puts the ball well on the outside right. 10 minutes to go. Will the club make a final comeback?
