The comic book rumor mill has been running for years, if not decades. But it was finally confirmed in DC Comics’ latest Batman comic: Robin, Batman’s friend, is bisexual.
The sexuality of Tim Drake – better known as Robin – is the subject of “Batman: Urban Legends”. In this comic, Robin accepts an invitation to go on a date with a guy. Batman fans have long speculated about Robin’s sexual orientation, asking the publisher for years if the character – who first dated girls – couldn’t be attracted to boys either. One reader writes: “Weird, I saw it come out years ago…Congratulations DC on making this happen.”
Recently comics have become more and more representative of the LGB community. For example, in March Marvel Comics revealed the first gay “Captain America” character, Aaron Fischer. He will play a role in the series “United States of Captain America”. Creator Aaron Trujillo said at the time: “Aaron is inspired by the heroes of the gay community: activists, leaders and ordinary people striving for a better life.” It represents the oppressed and the forgotten. I hope his first story resonates with readers and helps inspire the next generation of heroes.”
