Corona: Hospital admissions on the rise
The counter on the COVID dashboard is now 80,004 hospital admissions. In the week to October 6, there were an average of 58.7 Belgians a day hospitalized with COVID. This is an 8 percent increase over the previous week. And so the number of hospital admissions continues to rise, although the increase is less compared to the weekly numbers in the past few days. There are currently 737 patients with corona in hospitals, of whom 208 are in intensive care.
Deaths are still increasing. From September 27 to October 3, there were an average of 8.4 deaths per day, an increase of 9 percent over the previous seven-day period. The epidemic has already claimed the lives of 25,649 people in our country.
Infection continues to decline. In the week to October 3, there were an average of 1,894 new infections per day (-3 PCs). There are nearly five positive tests out of a hundred: the 4.7-piece positivity rate rose slightly. On the other hand, the number of tests is decreasing: an average of 44,348 per day in the week until October 3, which means a 7 percent decrease. There are now 1.256 million infections since the start of the health crisis.
The reproduction number is still just over 1 (at 1.02). A number above 1 indicates that the epidemic is gaining momentum.
