How heavy is Corona on the wealth of Belgian artists? Financial journalist Ludwig Verduyn, the man behind the “De Rijkste Belgen” website, wanted to answer that question. The answer turns out to be varied. Those who mainly earn their income from TV work or copyright work from a previous job have had no problem. Those who, on the other hand, have to live on the proceeds of performances, saw Black Snow. Fortunately, most of them have a good piggy bank on hand.
At first glance, it appears that 25 of the ‘richest’ artists who will be reviewing at Het Nieuwsblad today and in the coming days have weathered the Corona crisis well. Most of them can count on a steady income from a previous job (copyright) or other activities (television work), which means they don’t have to worry about their capital. And if not, they can still count on the financial reserves that they have created in recent years.
“But these are them a little happiness,” says Ludwig Verduyn. “The little gods or upcoming talents have been pressed hard against the realities of Corona: those who have to be on the shelves every week to make a living. They’ve seen their earnings collapse, if they don’t write red numbers.”
The financial journalist provides some striking examples. Nils Disstadsbader has seen his profits of 416,000 euros in 2019 fade to 89,000 euros in Corona 2020. Treasure Wenger’s stock has risen from 263,000 euros to barely 22 thousand euros. And they’re still among the lucky ones, because Selah Sue had a profit of 143,000 euros that turns into a loss of 54,000 euros, and Stan Van Samang went from 82,000 euros in profit to 28,000 euros in loss and Christophe ended up with a loss of 54,000 euros, compared to a profit of 61,000 in 2019. So I won’t You get their names That’s the top 25 look for it.”
Whether they will succeed next year is highly questionable, as 2021 was not a springboard for the entertainment sector either.
