Corona: the increase in numbers is slowing down
In the days between 14 and 20 August, 1,945 new cases of corona were recorded on average, an increase of 2 percent compared to the previous week. There was 8 percent less testing: an average of nearly 46,000.
The positivity rate rose slightly to 4.7 percent. In the same period, 4.7 people per day died from the effects of the virus. The Corona pandemic has already killed 25,341 people in our country. Between August 17 and 23, an average of 59.9 people per day were hospitalized with COVID-19. This is a 10 percent increase over the previous week. There are now a total of 643 people (+17 percent) in hospital with COVID-19, of whom 173 (+9 percent) are in intensive care. Reproduction number 1.04. A number higher than 1 indicates that the virus is still gaining momentum. The incidence rate (the number of infections per 100,000 population) was 234.7 (+16 percent) in the past 14 days.
Retreat in our province
In the provinces of Walloon Brabant, Luxembourg, Flemish Brabant and West Flanders, the number of confirmed infections decreased between August 14 and 20. Elsewhere, there has been an increase, with Namur (+27 percent), Liege (+18 percent) and the German-speaking community (+15 percent) as outliers. In Limburg, the number of infections has remained fairly stable.
