Not surprisingly, Phillips withdrew from the race. In the Democratic primaries, Joe Biden actually won a majority of the votes in every state with two fingers up his nose. Even in Minnesota, Phillips barely received 7.8 percent of the vote, compared to 70.7 percent for Biden.
So it was already clear that the November election would be a repeat of 2020: Biden versus Trump.
Phillips started his campaign because he believes Democrats are headed for electoral defeat in a fight between Biden and Trump. “Pass the torch,” was his message to the president at the time.
According to Phillips, Biden in particular was like thatApproval ratingsPresentiment. This is an estimate of the percentage of Americans who support Joe Biden's policies. According to FiveThirtyEight, that percentage currently stands at 38 percent, 1 percent more than when Phillips began his campaign.
Phillips has been sharp at times toward Biden, including regarding the president's policy on the border with Mexico. However, Phillips proposed a path that bears many similarities to Biden's. Not just regarding abortion, health care, and the economy, but also regarding immigration.
