No pressure, lightning fast and efficient. The FA put football on the pitch against Anderlecht on Sunday night, which more than rightly put him in the lead for a long time. Purple and White were brought back home after a 3-1 defeat, already their third this season against Al Ittihad.
“I am happy. It was a tough match,” said Deniz Ondev afterwards with his traditional smile. “We walked a lot. It was important to win the first match of the champion qualifiers. Now we can move on.”
The union began at the beginning of the dream. Two minutes later, Undav missed his shot and pushed Nieuwkoop 1-0 through Van Crombrugge’s legs. “Obviously that was a help. (Laughs). No, what a bad shot of me. Thankfully, Bart was there to score. They helped me out, so that’s okay.”
Undav Vanzer gave 2-0 and Mituma’s decisive 3-1 was most clearly on a silver platter. “We put in a good defensive performance with a score of 2-0 and the ball passed to Dante. Finally he came back.”
“My gesture while celebrating his goal? He was in ‘jail’ for five weeks and finally came back and scored. I opened the cuffs. Of course I will miss him next season.”
With 25 goals and 12 assists, Undav has been the only player this season to have doubled on both counts. “I could have had this two months ago. I am glad I got it now. Good condition, but I just want to win the next matches and the championship.”
Good news for the union. Playing against the big teams seems to suit the people of Brussels better. “It is easier for us to play against the big teams. We often have room to switch quickly and that suits us better.”
“We are hungry and we want to show that a small team like Union can play very well in every game. Also against big teams like Club Brugge, Anderlecht and Antwerp. The other teams have the experience, we have the hunger.”
“Is it basically a fight between Al Ittihad and Club Brugge for the title? The strongest competitor at the moment is Club Brugge, but you can’t cross out Antwerp and Anderlecht. You never know. It’s going to be a great duel until the end. The focus should be on winning the next match and then one more time , “
