The new season in the Jupiler Pro League is just around the corner, but many top-flight teams are still not done with their duties in the transfer market. There is also a lot to happen at FC Antwerp. It seems that The Great Old is saying goodbye to some trendsetters.
Antwerp had a rather disappointing season in the JPL. RAFC eventually finished last in the Champions League playoffs, meaning they won’t be playing European football next season. Although that shouldn’t necessarily be a disadvantage. After all, the old year is a kind of transitional year.
For example, coach Mark van Bommel has now said goodbye, and he has been replaced by Jonas de Roeck. In addition, the selection is likely to undergo a lot of adjustments. The general expectation is that Antwerp will sell several strong shareholders in the summer trade.
Movement around Balikoisha
Strongman Sven Jakes confirmed this last month. “There will definitely be one or two big signings – the names are known – and that’s not a negative thing. It gives oxygen to the organization. Then we can invest in new players,” the CEO said.
The names Jake is referring to are apparently Mandela Keita and George Elenikhina. Although so are the likes of Jean Botez and Michel Ang Balequesha. There also seems to be some movement around the latter. Celtic FC in particular would be quite a presence for the winger.
Competition from France
Transfer keeper Sacha Tavoleri even claims that Scottish champions manager Brendan Rodgers has already met with Palikoisha to convince him. But the question is whether Celtic are rich enough to beat Antwerp too.
Meanwhile, Stade Rennes are also said to have joined the fun. The French youngster sees the Belgian as a suitable replacement for Martin Terrier, who has moved to Bayer Leverkusen. However, Rennes have only been affected by some informal contacts with his entourage.
