Egan Bernal prepares for the Tour de France

Egan Bernal will once again be at the start of this year's Tour de France. The Colombian, winner five years ago La Grande Boucle, is part of the INEOS Grenadiers selection. I mentioned that La Gazzetta dello Sport Bernal confirmed the same on social media on Wednesday.

At the end of March, there was no certainty about his participation in the tour, but it seems that this is already a serious option. “But it will all depend on the future course of my season. I can say that some of my values ​​are the same or even better than they were before my fall. They are not good enough to win, but I am still making progress every day,” Bernal said after the Tour of Catalunya.

It took some time, but Bernal is racing from the front again after his horrific crash and subsequent rehabilitation. After top ten finishes in the Tour of Colombia, O Gran Camiño, and Paris-Nice, he finished third in the Tour of Catalunya. The 27-year-old climber also distinguished himself in Liège-Bastogne-Liège and the Tour de Romandie.

Bernal succeeded in convincing the INEOS Grenadiers team management with these good performances, so that he could prepare for his fifth Tour de France. In 2018, he made his Tour debut, and a year later made history when he became the first Colombian to win the Tour de France. In subsequent editions of 2020 (DNF) and 2023 (ranked 36th) he was much less successful.
