Eintracht Frankfurt win the European League after extra time and the penalty shootout, and champion Aaron Ramsey in the face of Rangers.

Two underdogs who attack bigger opponents and thus qualify for the Europa League final. Anyway, it’s a beautiful story in the football world. Rangers were eliminated Dortmund and Leipzig, among others, Frankfurt did the same with Barcelona and West Ham. Unfortunately for the neutral football fan, however, this final was far less exciting than the previous rounds.

Not warm from the first half

The temperature in Seville was probably thirty degrees, and the first half of it was not exactly the temperature. The intensity was high, but not really great opportunities were created. The result of the cups that were on the board in the first half was a logical consequence of this.

If there is one dangerous team it is Frankfurt. Their right-back Knauf came close to scoring, but his shot was saved by 40-year-old McGregor (!). The Scots weren’t very creative and couldn’t get Kevin Trapp into trouble at any point.

Stammering defenders

But to get ahead, you don’t have to create opportunities. The Scots proved it tonight. Immediately after the break, Sue handled the ball completely wrong and sent Rangers forward Joe Aribo deep into. Although there was no man at sea at the time, because Tota (formerly Kortrijk) could have easily cleared this ball. But the Brazilian defender faltered, hitting Aribo’s opening goal. He gratefully received this gift and pushed McGregor 0-1.

Trapp keeps Frankfurt straight

But the Scots also defended poorly. Kamada (formerly STVV) couldn’t finish Goldson’s fumble, but two minutes later a well-deserved equalizer came true. Rafael Buri appeared as the devil from a box and clicked on Kostic’s cross. Goldson stood by the Rangers to watch and Basie arrived late.

There was no doubt about the final attack. Substitute Sakala (formerly KV Oostende) couldn’t change that either. The quality of the game was not very high and the fatigue does not help. Already tired, both teams went into overtime. So it’s no surprise that they didn’t have much to offer. Although the keepers still created one big chance, when newly replaced Rove returned the ball to Kent. But Trapp pulled out with a stunning leg sweep so he was still tied up after 120 minutes.

It was penalty kicks that decided this humble final. Aaron Ramsey was replaced specifically for this. Of course, he was the only one missing. Frankfurt won the European League, thus securing itself the 11th place in the German Football League in the Champions League.
