Eupen and Beveren had to settle for a points split on Friday night at the Kehrweg. Beveren took the lead twice, but the home side showed resilience and always responded. Both teams share the lead in 1B at the moment.
The second day of the Challenger Pro League kicked off on Friday with Eupen vs. Beveren. Both teams won the first day of play and wanted to continue that trend.
It was Beveren who opened the discussion about the Kehrweg. Ahmed Khater headed home from a corner after twelve minutes.
However, the Waaslanders’ joy was short-lived, as 90 seconds later the score was level again. Renaud Emond neatly converted the free-kick into the net.
After 35 minutes, Matthijs Servis restored Beveren’s control with an opportunistic shot from the edge of the penalty area. But Eupen did not give up.
Twenty minutes from time, the home side got back into the game through Jerome Demme. That goal decided the game, but there were few chances to score after that.
With a 2-2 draw, Eupen and Beveren are joint top with 4 points. There are several candidates on Saturday to take over that leadership position.
