Not only has the northern United States been affected by the already historic winter storm, the bitter cold is also spreading farther south in Texas. And bats have to deal with that, too. According to US media, they are falling from the sky, killing hundreds.

The creatures seek tremendous protection from the cold at Houston’s Waugh Bridge, but they don’t get to those sheltered spots either. Mammals are dying in droves on the street, having recently experienced “hypothermia”.
To save the creatures–originating from warm Mexico–animal protectors capture them and put them in a hot box. Rubber mats have been placed under the bridge to ensure a soft landing.
Animals with the best chance are given fluids as well as food after a while. Then they are released again. Animal rights activists plan to keep going until the bitter cold is over.
The bat colony at the bridge consists of no less than 300,000 animals. Animals are helpful in maintaining the balance of the city’s ecosystem. Bats eat many insects.
