Remco Evenepoel will be ready in time for the Tour de France after falling out at the Tour of the Basque Country. Patrick Lefebvre writes this in his weekly column The newspaper. The Soudal Quick-Step team manager also provided some information about the Tour de France selection.
“Not that we really doubted it, but Remco Evenepoel will be ready for the Tour,” Lefebvre begins his column. “Professional memory: When he fell in the Tour of the Basque Country, he broke his collarbone and his shoulder. The latter is currently causing stiffness in the time trial position, but that is a matter of days. There will be a 33-kilometre individual time trial in Dauphiné on June 5. There is no reason To think that Remco could not reach his best levels there.
No Cattaneo
Evenpoel is currently at an altitude training camp in the Sierra Nevada. He sits there with his teammates Yves Lampaert, Casper Pedersen, Gianni Moscon, Ilan van Wilder and Mikel Landa. “It’s no secret that the riders currently with Remco have a good chance of going to the Tour later,” Lefebvre said. “With special reference to Luis Vervaeke, who is not in Spain because he has become a father again.”
“Normally, Mattia Cattaneo would also be a regular starter in the Tour team, but he has been in trouble for a few months. First it was the COVD infection, and now thyroid problems. It is very unfortunate, but unfortunately: it will not be Also present on the tour.
Procedure
Although the above-mentioned riders have a good chance of being in the Grand Départ in Florence on June 29, Lefebvre maintains that only Evenpoel is guaranteed a place. “Except for leader Evenepoel, no one is sure of the selection at the moment. The procedure remains the same as a few years ago: a long list of twelve contestants who must all assume they will be there. In the end, we split this into a team of eight. It’s always been the case: the eighth name is the hardest, and it will be no different now.
