Hip Hop Festival Fire Is Gold, with about 10,000 festival-goers, offers performances by local artists and hip hop acts on two stages, food trucks, fresh drinks and even a ski slope to Antwerp. “We don’t know every artist, but we dance anyway.”
Fire Is Gold Festival goers were already having the weather in their favor. A warm, golden sun shone all afternoon, but that wasn’t the only setting for the atmosphere. Artists such as Damso, Bizzey, Broederliefde and Dystinct also gave their best in two stages. Fresh beer and good food are also not to be missed. Helen and Janek are already eating a delicious hamburger. “We came for a beer and dancing,” says Jannike. “First we went to see Bizzey, then we went to Casa Bacardi to celebrate,” adds Helen. “We don’t come for a specific artist and we don’t know everyone, but we dance anyway.” “This is my second celebration and sometimes I find it uncomfortable to be among all those people,” Jannike says. “I am very happy, but I still think it is a crazy idea that all of this can be brought back all of a sudden. I still have to get used to the idea.”

Between people
Claudia feels like a fish in the water in the festival meadow. “I’m so glad we can do something fun instead of sitting at home all the time,” she says. “I don’t find it uncomfortable at all, it’s like nothing happened, as if it was never different. Partying feels so normal again, and I don’t feel insecure at all. It’s really good to be back among the people.”

“Good atmosphere, good food, lovely people,…everything you need on a Saturday afternoon,” Waseem and the Sheikh laughed. Wasim is the podcast host on Koolcast and also has a platform on Fire Is Gold today, but he also comes to dance. “I don’t usually like crowds, but it is really good to see everyone happy again. What I really appreciate about Fire Is Gold is that it is one of the only festivals in Belgium that offers opportunities for artists and small businesses.”
