Extreme weather devastates China: Seven people killed and more than 70 crocodiles escaped Weather News

Chinese media reported that more than seventy crocodiles escaped from a shelter in Maoming, a coastal city in Guangdong province.

According to a government official, there are 69 adults and six juveniles. Media said that some were arrested, but the rescue operation was complicated by heavy rain and the depth of the lake in which they were. There have been no reports of attacks by animals so far.

Video footage circulating on Chinese social media shows a number of crocodiles swimming. Several boats carrying people wearing helmets and flak jackets search for the animals. Other photos actually show some of the animals being captured, with their mouths and limbs bound with tape to protect passers-by.

Seven people were killed and three others were missing to the west after multiple landslides caused by heavy rains in the city of Yulin in the Guangxi region, Xinhua News Agency reported.

Last week’s rain also caused severe flooding in Hong Kong, killing two people.
