Thibaut Courtois announced this week that he will no longer play for the Red Devils as long as Domenico Tedesco remains the national team coach.
“By abandoning the group in 2023, he has lost his last asset,” Nico Dijkshoorn is very clear about the situation at Het Nieuwsblad. “After that, as a team you will never be a ‘nice couple’ again.”
The columnist believes that Courtois is choosing his moments with the wrong expertise. “The announcement that he will no longer play for De Ruud Duivels under Tedesco seems a bit ridiculous. It was Tedesco himself who decided long ago that Courtois would never play as a goalkeeper under him again.
By leaving the choice, Courtois took care of it himself. “There, Courtois put an end to the most important thing in team sports: laughing together, fighting together, winning together.”
According to Dijkshoorn, the reaction of the Belgian Football Association is very clear. He continues: “They assume that Courtois will not play for the Red Devils again.”
“In X they write: ‘We would like to thank Thibaut for the wonderful moments with the Red Devils and wish him good luck for the future.’ This feels like a final farewell.”
