The number of homicides in the United States increased by 30 percent last year compared to 2019. The U.S. Federal Police Service is investigating the FBI. This is the largest increase since measurements began in 1960. The total number of total crimes is actually low.
The number of homicides in the United States has risen by about 4,900 to more than 21,500. The number of murders rose sharply, especially during the summer months, and has since been high. The total number of homicides is even lower than it was in the 1980s. According to the FBI, 77 percent of murders are committed by guns. In 2019, it was 74 percent.
According to The New York Times In many cities, such as Albuquerque, Memphis, Milwaukee, Tulsa and Des Moines, homicides have not yet been recorded.
Metropolitan areas
About 500 murders have been reported in New York City. This is about 200 more than in 2019, but less than the 2200 killed in 1990. In Los Angeles, there have been 351 homicides, a hundred more than in 2019. In 1980 there were 1010 records.
In all, more than 9,900 blacks, 7,000 whites, more than 500 other ethnic groups and about 300 unknown ethnic groups were killed. About 14,000 men and 3,600 women are known to have been killed.
Corona crisis
Experts tell the US media that there is no clear explanation for the number of homicides, but point to the destructive effect of the corona crisis. People lost loved ones, resulting in stress, job loss and great uncertainty. More weapons were sold.
However, the number of murders is not complete. About 16,000 people in 18,000 federal, state and local governments and agencies have reported their crime to the FBI, but companies are not required to do so.
