The federal government released funds for the rapid rebuilding of the carpentry workshop of St Hubert Detention Center. This building was hit by a fire on May 15. This was announced by Minister of State Matteo Michel, in charge of the Buildings Agency.
In the May 15 fire, the two wings of the building were reduced to ashes. Urgent work has already been carried out to protect the rooftops of the complexes and to secure the electrical installations.
The goal is to demolish and rebuild the infrastructure destroyed by the fire once the judicial investigation is completed. For its part, FPS Justice, for its part, is taking the necessary steps to replace all machine tools in a carpentry shop.
It is estimated that 2.5 to 3 million euros will be needed for the reconstruction. The Cabinet had given the green light last Friday to release the necessary funds.
“It is very important to employ the inmates, with a view to reintegrating them and learning by doing. This is particularly the case in Saint-Hubert, where the prison system is organized around prison labor. The inmates who live in this workshop, shed the education and knowledge that they do not They can be neglected which can be useful for their reintegration,” explains Secretary of State Michel.
