Those touring the Colosseum today may be able to admire the inscription “Ivan + Haley 23” on one of the walls.
In the Italian capital, Rome, a tourist carved it into the wall of the world-famous Colosseum with a key, angering the Italians. He used the key to leave his name and that of his (potential) girlfriend. This can be seen in a video that is now making the rounds on social media.
The same recording was made by another tourist, who also called the man a “stupid idiot” after confronting him.
The romantic wasn’t caught, but according to Italian media, he risks a hefty fine. For example, a Russian tourist who also scratched something in the wall of the monument a few years ago had to pay a fine of 20 thousand euros.
The Italian Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangioliano, had already strongly condemned the incident. “This is a very dangerous matter and it is not appropriate for a tourist to damage one of the most famous places in the world, which is a historical heritage,” the minister said.

The Colosseum is about 2,000 years old and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Italy. It attracts millions of visitors every year.
