Belgian footballRuud Vormer then moves on to Zulte Waregem. After Club Brugge has made a significant financial effort, it can start on a six-month lease basis.
Ruud Vormer will soon be seen as a footballer on our courts. Almost a year after the first contacts, the Dutchman moved to Zulte-Waregem. Vormer has reached a lease agreement with Flemish club South West, where he will initially play until the end of this season. If Zulte Waregem succeeds in securing a retention, he will in principle sign Vormer for two more seasons. The deal is usually closed today.
The Bruges Club understands this. It required significant financial efforts to ensure the transfer could proceed. For example, Zulte Waregem will only pay a small part of Vormer’s salary for the next six months – more than €200,000. Vormer was dropped at the start of this year at the club, having been kept out of selection since the beginning of August. He is still training, but since his last match on 5 August – at home against Zulte Waregem – he has not been able to play.
At the end of this month, Zulte Waregem will play against Club Brugge at home, but Vormer will have to stay on the sidelines for that match. Because the Club continues to pay its salary (in part), it is not eligible to compete against its parent club.
In addition to Zulte Waregem, Vormer has also enjoyed interest from KV Kortrijk. However, Esefe has been dragging the Dutchman’s clothes for a while longer, who had already held discussions with the club in the spring. Not only was the deal financially complicated at the time, but Vormer also wanted to give her another chance at the club under Hoefkens. The five-time club champion is now leaving the blue and black with mixed feelings. Although soon – contrary to expectations – he will still play football in the Jupiler Pro League.
The question is whether Zulte Waregem Mbaye-Lee coach is also satisfied with Vormer’s transfer. Last week, he appeared in an interview that “his arrival is not a problem.” “Because we have only 30 percent possession, while in Bruges he excelled with the club’s dominant ball.” Lee also questioned Vormer’s match fitness, who had not played a match in months.
