The Boston Celtics are NBA champions again. It is their 18th title, the previous one dating back to 2008. They have left the Los Angeles Lakers behind and are now the sole record holder. In the final match against Dallas, Boston won for the fourth time by clear numbers: 106-88.
In Game 5 of the NBA Finals (Best of 7), Boston was able to close out the game at home against Dallas, which had its back against the wall while trailing 3-1.
Boston left no doubt about it and was boss above boss. They didn’t want to miss their date with history.
The formidable duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown convincingly led the Celtics to a record title.
Tatum scored 31 points, had 11 assists, and grabbed 8 rebounds. Brown scored 21 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists. Brown was also named MVP (MVP) of the NBA Finals.
“I share this award with all my teammates and with my brother Jayson Tatum,” Brown said afterward. “He should have won this award, too.”
For Luka Doncic, who scored 28 points, the search for his first NBA title continues. For now, Dallas is still stuck with one title: in 2011 with German Dirk Nowitzki.
The Celtics won their first NBA title in 1957, followed by 10 more in just 12 years. After the previous title in 2008, with star players Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen, a long drought followed. Two years ago, they managed to win their 18th title, but then lost painfully to the Golden State Warriors.
But after 16 years it was all worth it.
