The art and literatureThe Kiekeboes are back and how. Screenwriter Nicks, 54, and comic artist Charel Cambrey, 55, take over for godfather Mirho, 75, who bid farewell to comic books in September. In the “new” series the focus will be on Fanny and there will be a shift in drawing style. “Not an ending or a weak version of the original, but a reset,” it sounds like.
Merho has decided to leave his beloved Kiekeboes behind after 46 years. The Godfather of the sitcom released his latest comedy album in September titled “Season Finale.” But the end of “De Kiekeboes” is certainly not near. Screenwriter Nix and cartoonist Charel Cambrey are based on Mirho's work. The new album Uranium-235 will be released in April.
“It cannot be an imitation of what I did,” Merho said in a press release. “The success of De Kiekeboes has always been based on humour. Humor is very personal and therefore difficult to imitate. So for the 'new' Kiekeboes, this is not a weak copy of the original. What I had in mind was a reset.”
This reset comes in the form of a new drawing style. For example, the characters Fanny, Moemoe, and Marcel look a little different. Moreover, the focus of the new adventures will be on Fanny. “Fanny is quite a feminist and fights injustice with her friends Alanis and Tomboy. She has moved into an apartment building where Moimo will also live,” say Nix and Sharelle Cambry. Other Kiekeboes members will continue to appear as well.
The godfather is already happy with his kiikipo transformation. “The first album is like a train and not far from the current series. It is still about exciting adventures mixed with humour,” says Marho.
The new album will be available in stores on April 17.
