filmThe three creepy Sanderson sisters from “Hocus Pocus” will soon be back on screen again. The sequel to the cult classic from 1993 did so well that Bette Midler (77), Sarah Jessica Parker (58) and Kathy Najimy (66) reprise their roles for a third film. Walt Disney Pictures president Sean Bailey revealed this in an interview with The New York Times.
It’s official: “Hocus Pocus 3” is in the works. Fans owe this to the runaway success of the previous two films. Thirty years after the debut of “Hocus Pocus,” protagonists Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy are back as terrible witch sisters in the sequel. ‘Hocus Pocus 2’ was released to the world in October last year and became an instant hit. During its opening weekend, the print edition generated a total of 2.7 billion minutes streamed. In doing so, the film left behind the family film “Encato,” which only had 2.2 million minutes streamed during its opening weekend.
Not only actors had a share in popularity. The well-thought-out marketing strategy behind the film was also crucial. “The simple idea was for the three iconic characters to return first and foremost,” said Asad Ayaz, Disney Studios’ director of marketing. “We kicked off the campaign with the announcement ‘we’re back, the witches’ and that phrase was the final marketing hook for the whole strategy. The return of the three iconic witches was pivotal and it paid off.”
the story
The first film from 1993 introduced viewers to three witches for the first time: Winifred (Bette Midler), Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Mary (Kathy Najimi). They were brought back to life by lighting the black flame candle with all the consequences. In the sequel, they are accidentally turned back by some young students. Will they succeed in stopping the vengeful witches from wreaking havoc and rioting in Salem? Nothing is known about the story of “Hocus Pocus 3” and its release date at the moment.
